Handmade ceramics shop based in Thailand

This is the title.

Our Story

Ceremonial Pacha is a craft workshop based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, dedicated to exploring the ceremonial and acoustic traditions of ancient American cultures. Founded by an Ecuadorian ceramist, the workshop draws inspiration from the sophisticated ceramic technologies developed thousands of years ago across the Andes and coastal regions of South America.

Each piece created in the studio is hand-built and rooted in research into pre-Columbian sound vessels, particularly the remarkable water whistle ceramics associated with the Vicus culture. These objects were not only artistic expressions but also instruments capable of producing haunting, resonant tones through the movement of water and air.

At Ceremonial Pacha, this ancient knowledge is reimagined through contemporary craftsmanship, keeping alive a tradition where ceramics function as both sacred objects and living sound instruments.

Craft and Inspiration

Every vessel produced at Ceremonial Pacha is individually formed by hand using traditional ceramic techniques. Rather than mass production, the workshop focuses on slow craft, experimentation, and respect for the original cultural technologies that inspired the work.

The pieces explore the lost sound systems of pre-Columbian water whistle vessels. When filled with water and gently moved, the chambers inside the ceramic body create shifting tones and whistles. The intensity of the movement changes the pitch and character of the sound, transforming the vessel into a ceremonial instrument as well as a sculptural object.

Through this process, Ceremonial Pacha bridges continents and histories, connecting the ceramic traditions of the Americas with a creative studio rooted in northern Thailand.

Purpose and Practice

Ceremonial Pacha approaches ceramics as more than functional pottery. Each work is intended to evoke ritual, sound, and connection to ancient knowledge systems that once blended art, technology, and spirituality.

Working from a studio in Chiang Mai, the workshop produces limited pieces that invite interaction and curiosity. Collectors, musicians, and cultural enthusiasts are drawn to these vessels not only for their form but also for the experience they create when sound emerges through movement.

By reviving and reinterpreting these ancient acoustic designs, Ceremonial Pacha aims to keep alive a small fragment of humanity’s shared creative heritage while offering contemporary audiences a tangible connection to the ceremonial traditions of the past.
